A distribution centre in Birmingham took advantage of Nationwide Concrete Flooring’s free survey programme to gather an understanding of the ongoing issue with their external access areas to the distribution centre.

Over time the areas had become very exhausted due to high trafficking and adverse weather conditions’ resulting in large cracked areas and a very uneven surface. Once the contract was awarded to Nationwide Concrete Flooring a very specific and accurate plan was initiated by our very experienced estimators and production team.

Due to the exhaustion of the current slab the client gave Nationwide Concrete Flooring the duty to design and build a slab with all the characteristics to meet the client’s demands. With the business hours not to be disturbed our dedicated production team worked unsociable hours to ensure the distributing centre could run at full capacity.

As British weather is so unpredictable sometimes when undergoing an external project it can become very challenging. However our specialist estimators and production team worked tirelessly to ensure these issues and potential concerns were eradicated with ease.

Below are the works the project consisted of;

  • Excavation process – using our high powered JCB with pecker attachment the current slab is extracted from location and is the crushed and removed from site by Nationwide Concrete Flooring using our own skip removal service.
  • Sub Base Process – ensuring the sub base is level and compact enough to withstand all known concerns the slab could endure
  • Installation of newly designed slab – Specifically designed slab is installed with all characteristics stated in the programme details. Including drainage locations and laid with a specific Falls gradient to ensure water has no effect on work intensity.
  • Finishing process – The slab is finished with a brush finish to increase traction around site for both human and machine traffic. This will also eradicate slip zones during the winter period.
