Nationwide Concrete Flooring, the Yorkshire concrete flooring specialists, were recently contracted to cast a 200mm deep cast in situ warehouse slab with a tight pan finish for a local company located in Brigg, Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.
The works began with the final trim to the sub base material utilising Nationwide Concrete Flooring’s own sub base laser controlled compacting and levelling machine (see sub base trimming page for further details) and the setting up of the polythene membrane reinforcement mesh. Following this a permanent steel profile construction/contraction joint was installed, which also acts as the day joint between each pour. The steel construction joint also protects the edge of the slab from breakdown under heavy trafficking. (please see our steel joints section for further details) our preferred column surround detail (see photograph was also installed around each individual steel column. The concrete floor slab totalling an area of over 2,000 m2 was poured over 2 days utilising the Somero SXP-D laser screed concrete levelling machine (the latest in laser screed flooring technology) and to the required tolerance of FM2 to the 3rd edition of Technical Report 34. After each pour the concrete was finished utilising Nationwide’s ‘ride-on’ machines to a tight pan finish, specified by the client and sealed using Nationwide Concrete flooring’s very own Diamond Cure hard, this product helps inhibit dusting which is crucial to the overall cleanliness of a working warehouse.
The following day approximately 445 linear metres of saw cut induced contraction joints were installed to the slab, this process helps control shrinkage of the concrete.
