Yorkshire based design & build concrete flooring contractors Nationwide Concrete Flooring construct new salt storage building steel fibre reinforced jointless suspended concrete floor slab, Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Poor ground conditions meant that this salt storage depot in Doncaster required driven cast instu concrete piles beneath the floor slab and perimeter ring beam. Nationwide Concrete Flooring designed a steel fibre reinforced jointless concrete floor slab using Bekaert steel fibres as the primary reinforcement along with perimeter steel fabric mesh. 380mm diameter piles with 900mm flared heads were installed by the piling contractor which meant that no further reinforcement was required other than steel fibres over the pile head section. The floor slab was designed to a depth of 280mm which would could cater for a uniformly distributed load of 75kN/m2.
High dosages of steel fibre reinforcement have a tendency to appear at the surface during the power floating process. Nationwide Concrete Flooring’s experienced concrete finishing team applied a monolithically bonded dry shake sprinkle topping and surface hardener manufactured by Sika Limited to help suppress the steel fibres.
The Sika dry shake topping also provided an extremely high abrasion resistance, ideal for improving the longevity of the floor slab surface when trafficked with loading shovels and also aggressive road salts.
As you can see from the photograph the jointless steel fibre reinforced concrete floor slab has no ridges or joints which would potentially break down from heavy use. This also reduces fatigue for loading shovel operators and the front bucket.
