Steel fibre reinforced concrete floor slab – new waste recycling facility, Cheshire

‘Client AD Broster & Sons required a new external concrete hardstanding for their ever expanding waste recycling business in Culcheth near Warrington in Cheshire.

Nationwide Concrete Flooring were awarded the contract to design and build the concrete floor slabs in February 2012 after working closely with the client over a 13 month period. Due to the British climate and timescales for client, speed of installation was key to the project becoming a success and hence the use of Nationwide Concrete Floorings new SXP-D Somero Laser Screed concrete levelling and compacting machine.

Installation of perimeter shuttering was carried out over weekends by the ‘Set Up Team’ as to not hinder concrete pours during the week. This allowed the area of 8,800m2 to be poured over 5 consecutive days utilising steel fibre reinforcement supplied by Bekaert Limited. The inducing of the saw cut joints were carried out in the early hours of the morning to control shrinkage of the concrete. The saw cuts were sealed immediately after this process using Nationwide’s Instant Seal 101 joint sealant.
