Whilst most people were preparing for the arrival of Santa, the concrete flooring team from Nationwide Concrete Flooring were busy casting a new jointless steel fibre reinforced concrete floor slab in Hull, East Yorkshire for a new Aldi store to be opened in the new year.
The new 5 D steel fibre supplied and manufactured by Bekaert allows the floor to be designed and installed directly over the pile caps without the need for any ancillary bar reinforcement. The Bekaert steel fibres are integrated into the concrete mix using the conveyor system with the inclusion of a super plasticiser to increase the cohesiveness of the mix and allow the concrete matrix to be workable during placement.
The warehouse floor area of 1,100m2 was laid during the day using one of Nationwide Concrete Flooring’s laser screed system and also a mobile concrete pump for areas with tight access constraints.Nationwide Concrete Flooring were awarded the contract to design and build the steel fibre reinforced cast instu concrete floor slab suspended on pre cast concrete piles.
The day joint shuttering system supplied by Permaban was utilised to create the step in levels between the Aldi warehouse delivery areas and also sales area for Aldi customers. The Permaban dowelling system allows the use of steel dowels plates to transfer the load from one slab to the next. The concrete floor slab design was 200mmm in depth reinforced with 30kg/m3 of Bekaert 5D steel fibres and a 40N/mm2 Cem I concrete mix.
