Nationwide Concrete Flooring has completed the design and installation of a new high tolerance industrial concrete floor slab on behalf of expanding warehousing and haulage company George Allinson Transport of Darlington
The concrete flooring contractors design catered for the ground conditions, racking leg loads and a uniformly distributed load. The concrete flooring contractor in agreement with client, consulting engineer and main contractor, opted for a steel fabric mesh floor slab design 170mm deep.
Initial sub base preparation carried out utilising the laser guided sub base levelling equipment and experienced operatives took a total of 4 days from start to completion. Following this sub base levelling the steel permanent construction joints supplied by Permaban were installed to provide armoured day joints between each concrete pour.
Readymixed concrete, supplied by Aggregate Industries local batching plant at a delivery rate of 40m3 per hour, sufficient enough to feed the Somero laser screed concrete levelling and compacting machine.
The laser screed laid the concrete surface to the flatness tolerance of FM2 as per TR34 2013 edition. A natural dry shake topping, also manufactured by Permaban, was incorporated into the surface of the concrete during the powerfloating process. The dry shake topping increases the hardness and abrasion resistance for new warehouse floors to the classification standard AR1. On completion of the concrete powerfloating the floor was spray cured with Aquacure curing agent to minimise concrete dusting in the future and aid cleaning.
Sawn induced joints were carefully planned to avoid the future heavily trafficked aisles. All of the 2,600 linear metres of saw cut joints were sealed using Nationwide Concrete Flooring’s Instant Seal 101, the ideal solution to protect saw cut joints.
