Nationwide Concrete Flooring were recently contracted to design and construct the ground floor concrete slabs for Klyne Aviation’s new 37,000 square foot aircraft hangar with three floors of offices.
The design of the concrete floor was carried out using Nationwide Concrete Floorings ‘in house’ design team along with the main contractors engineer, Howard Cornell of Carter Design Ltd. The two partners agreed to use Nationwide’s Instant Seal 101 sealant system which neatly fits into the saw cut induced contraction joint as soon as the cut has been made and so helps protect the arris edge of the joint.
The majority of the concrete was laid and levelled in two days using a Somero SXP laser screed, although due to access restrictions created by the steel columns the section of the floor slab under the mezzanine structure was laid and levelled using the smaller Somero 3.0 XD.
Once the powerfloating operations were completed the slab was spray-cured using a Sika curing agent and dust inhibitor. The Sika curing agent will prove extremely useful for the client when storing aircraft in the building, where increased dust particles may create a big problem.
