An expanding kitchen manufacturer based in Thorne near Doncaster required a new industrial powerfloated concrete floor slab. Nationwide Concrete Flooring was contracted to design and build a steel fibre reinforced jointless industrial concrete floor. The floor slab was designed without the need for any induced saw cut joints whatsoever, in order to minimise the maintenance costs for the client in the future. Steel fibres supplied by Bekaert were integrated into the concrete mix by the concrete flooring contractors operatives via the conveyor system. The concrete was then laid and compacted using the contractors Somero SXP-D laser screed machine. The steel fibre reinforced jointless powerfloated concrete floor slab incorporated a natural Permaban dry shake topping and surface hardener along with spray curing membrane and dust inhibiting compound.
For the construction joint between the slabs over the two-day casting period, Nationwide Concrete Flooring selected Permaban Signature to provide long-term protection for the concrete floor slab.
The Signature floor joint has a half-hexagon profile on the floor’s surface, different from traditional armoured joints with straight metal steel bars. This prevents joint damage caused by heavy forklift trucks trafficking straight across the joint. The Signature joints were also used at the existing/new
doorway interface to minimise the chance of slab breakdown and to cope with the variable difference in floor levels between the two buildings.
