Barcode printer manufacturers Star Micronics required a new warehouse to cater for the increase in demand for their services, located next to the Rolls Royce factory in Derby. Nationwide Concrete Flooring was contracted on behalf of the main contractor in order to provide a new cast instu ground bearing concrete floor slab. The floor slab design based upon the ground conditions and floor loading criteria was designed by the concrete flooring contractors “in house” design team co ordinating with the clients consulting engineers AJS Structural Design Ltd.
Nationwide Concrete Flooring took over the working platform, approximately 60mm from the underside of slab level and began laying and compacting the final layer of sub base utilising their own last levelling sub base equipment which fits neatly onto the front bucket of the JCB 3 CX. The sub base was levelled to the tolerance of +/- 5mm from overall datum using a quality quarried material.
The concrete slab design was 150mm in depth was laid and compacted using the concrete contractors own Somero SXP – D laser screed concrete levelling machine to the flatness tolerance of FM3 as per TR34. Due to the dimensions and configuration of the building a Permaban Eclipse steel profile joint was installed to reduce the aspect ratio of the floor slab design.
On completion of the powerfloating process the industrial concrete floor slab had sawn induced joints at 6 metre centres. These saw cut joints were subsequently sealed using the contractors own joint sealant, Instant Seal 101, which immediately protects the arris edge of the joint from breaking down under trafficking and debris ingress.
As you can see from the photograph, this concrete floor slab in Derby looks excellent and is testament to the companies expectations in terms of qua lit and structural integrity.
