3D Fibre Reinforcement, Spalding, Lincolnshire

Nationwide Concrete Flooring was recently successful in the tender for a full design, supply and installation of a fibre reinforced slab at a fresh produce site in Spalding, Lincolnshire.

The ever growing and already one of the world’s largest fresh produce providers were focused on expanding even more. The construction of a 1,800m² storage extension was given the go ahead. Nationwide Concrete Flooring the industrial flooring specialists of Yorkshire were awarded the contract to design a 150mm 3D Bekaert steel fibre reinforced concrete floor slab. The floor was laid to a tolerance of FM3 2003 TR34 3rd Edition, including a natural dry shake topping finished and polished with our own power floats.

Pre-start meetings were arranged and attended by all the relevant members to ensure the plan was recognised and understood by all. This is protocol for Nationwide Concrete Flooring to gather and deliver all the specific details the project will contain.

Works commenced onsite with the first procedure being the sub-base preparation. Using NCF’s own laser controlled sub-base attachment on the JCB, extreme flatness tolerances can be achieved and the base layer is compacted down to ensure the surface is perfect for the new slab to be poured. Integration of the 3D steel fibres into the concrete onsite was completed on site using our own conveyor to ensure the correct amount of fibres were integrated into the concrete. Using the state of the art Somero SXP-D laser screed to lay and compact the concrete to the required tolerance, 1,800m² was poured and laid in a single day. The slab was then finished with a natural dry shake topping and then powerfloated to give the concrete a perfectly polished finish.
