Laser Screed Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete Flooring, Hull, Yorkshire

A refurbished industrial warehouse on Hull’s Alexander Dock required a new concrete floor slab to support the racking systems for timber handling. Nationwide Concrete Flooring designed and installed a 195mm deep steel fibre reinforced concrete floor slab using the company’s latest piece of kit – an SXP Somero Laser Screed.

This ride-on (which is so big it had to be taken to site by low-loader) comfortably coped with daily outputs of circa 350 square metres of concrete. The steel fibre reinforcement supplied by David Clark of Bekaert Limited was intergrated within the concrete by conveyor and the turning motion of the concrete trucks’ drums worked to create an even distribution of fibres.

One of the client’s requirements for the slab was the need for a straight grade fall from one end of the warehouse to the other. Co-ordinates were therefore inputted into the SXP’s computer control panel and the fall was automatically – and accurately – set.

Prior to the concrete floor being laid, the sub base leveler was used to control and compact the final trimming layer of stone. The steel columns were isolated using our typical column surround detail complete with isolation foam. Polythene wall protection was placed to minimize exposure to the cladding.

Grain Store Concrete Flooring using Laser Screed Leveller, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk

Nationwide Concrete Flooring Limited has completed the installation of another laser screeded concrete floor slab for a grain store in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.

Perimeter shuttering was placed 600mm beyond the outside face of the steel columns. This detail allowed concrete to be placed underneath the pre-cast concrete wall panels to keep out vermin and rainwater. The outside strip of concrete was then finished using hand trowels whilst the inside was powerfloated with our large ride-on machinery.

The completed surface finish offers easy cleaning and maintenance whilst allowing grip for machinery.

Instant Seal 101 installed into the saw-cut induced contraction joints stops debris from falling into the cracks maximizing the risk of contamination into the stored grain. The Instant Seal also helps to protect the edges of the joints during heavy trafficking.

Laser Screed Concrete Flooring for Mushroom Plant, Andover, Hampshire

A new mushroom composting facility on the outskirts of Andover in Hampshire needed precisely leveled and powerfloated concrete floor slabs. After considering several companies to do the work they (understandably) chose Nationwide Concrete Flooring.

The internal concrete floor slab differed to most of our laser screed floors because a single fall from one side of the slab to the other was needed for drainage. The experienced Nationwide Concrete Flooring staff set up the laser screed concrete laying machine to take account of the fall during the concreting process.

The Nationwide Concrete Flooring powerfloating equipment was then boomed onto the concrete floor slabs using telescopic equipment. The finishers then provided a full powerfloated finish and sprayed the completed slab with a caring membrane.
The sawcut design was particularly interesting on this project as panels within the concrete were left at 10 metre centres due to the dimensions of the building. Rather than cut the joints at 5 metre centres, with the approval of the client Nationwide Concrete Flooring pushed the boundaries and cut joints at 10 metre centres. The completed saw cut joints were sealed with Nationwide Concrete Floor’s own Instant Seal 101.

Concrete Flooring in Leeds, West Yorkshire

Laying the supermarket concrete floor

A new supserstore in Leeds is the latest job well done for Nationwide Concrete Flooring, part of the Nationwide Diamond Group.  The sales area of our largest supermarket concrete floor to date was completed in just two days using our laser screed concrete leveling machine while the main warehouse was powerfloated and took a further day.  The warehouse was given a dry shake sprinkle topping and the sales area a course tamp finish.

Prior to the floor slabs being laid the sub base was trimmed using our laser guided sub base compact leveler.

Internal and External Fibre Reinforced Concrete Floor Slabs, Hammerwich, near Birmingham

Powerfloated and polished concrete floor slab

Nationwide Concrete Flooring carried out the sub base trimming using a laser-guided sub base compact leveller, the laying of the internal concrete grain store floor and external concrete floor slabs using the Somero laser screed.

A polypropylene reinforced concrete mix was designed for both the internal and external concrete floors to a depth of 150mm.  For concrete floor slab designs of this nature the working platform and substrate must be of excellent quality as once used the concrete floor slabs will be heavily trafficked.

The laser-guided compact sub base leveller can lay the sub base to tolerances of + or – 10mm from overall datum.  This not only ensures the sub base is even with no ruts but also controls concrete volume consumption.

The polished grain store concrete floor was cast in just one day, with the saw cut contraction joints installed the following day. Pouring concrete using flood pour laser screed techniques means that the number of day joints within the slab are either negated or minimised.  This is particularly important for grain or bulk storage concrete floors as the loading shovels do not catch the top of the day joints with their front buckets.

Concrete Floor Slab for Waste Recycling Centre, Market Deeping, Nr Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Internal and external flooring waste recycling centre

The waste recycling centre at market Deeping handles tonnes of product on a weekly basis and the concrete floor slab has to be capable of withstanding extreme trafficking and usage.

Nationwide Concrete Flooring constructed the 2,400m2 of internal power floated concrete in just one day. Laying concrete utilising the laser screed along with a quality workforce means that no day joint was required. This is particularly appealing to clients operating waste recycling units as there are no differences in the levels between joints.

Nationwide Concrete Flooring also constructed the external concrete hardstand using fibre reinforcement concrete. In addition to the fibre reinforcement, 2 layer of steel fabric reinforcement were used at the main access doorway. The mesh was pre fabricated and place on just in time basis prior to concreting.

A finish for the external concrete slabs was created using small hand held power floats leaving a rough pan finish surface to the concrete

This is a finish which nationwide concrete flooring have carried out on numerous occasions rather than the more traditional brush finish  is far more suitable for waste recycling facilites as it increases the longevity of the surface finish.

Concrete Repairs, Abingdon, Oxfordshire

Baumatic Appliances recently contacted Nationwide Diamond Group for advice regarding damage to their concrete floor slab which had been continually causing them problems over the fast few years.

The construction joint had been repaired many times but the repairs were never substantial enough to hold up.

Having carried out numerous repairs of this nature, Nationwide Diamond Group quoted for and designed the remedial work within a very short space of time. So Baumatic could traffic the completed slab on the Monday morning the repairs were carried out over a weekend and a steel plate was fitted over the new construction joints.

If you would like a no obligation quote for a similar concrete repair please call 01430 436596.

Concrete floor slab removal using diamond blade floor saws in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire

Nationwide Diamond Contracts recently completed the removal of circa 400m2 of 350/400mm deep concrete reinforced floor slab in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire over a 5 day period from start to finish. The project was particularly awkward due to access problems caused by the concrete floor slabs varying in level due to the different processes required by the end user.

Removal of steel fibre reinforced 450mm deep concrete floor slab

Nationwide Diamond Contracts had to use their full range of concrete floor sawing and diamond blade equipment including the XLS 56565xx & 345353 ring saw in order to be able to take out the large areas of concrete floor slab in such a short space of time. The thumbnail photograph alongside shows one of our trained operatives using the xl 2562 ring saw to cut through the reinforced concrete floor slab.

Once the concrete floor slabs had been cut and removed Nationwide Diamond Contracts then had to drill and dowel the saw cut edges of the concrete floor slab in a 2 layered system to allow the best load transfer from one concrete floor slab to the other. Nationwide Diamond Contracts have the perfect tools for this very labour intensive task in the EZ Drill 210BSRA and the EX drill XLX 5650. Please see adjacent pictures to see the EZ Drills in action. Please note that not only are we able to offer highly competitive rates to drill and dowel concrete floor slabs using the Nationwide Diamond Contracts EZ Drill systems but it is also a much safer method of installing steels dowels into concrete floor slabs and negates the potential problem of operator fatigue etc.

For further details on the XLS floor saw, ring saw, the EZ drill system or any other items of specialist plant that Nationwide Diamond Contracts operate please feel free to contact Jon Wilcox on either 07900 456665 or jon@nd-group.com.

Concrete Grinding & Multi Planing at Retail Park

Nationwide Diamond Contracts have just completed the concrete grinding and concrete multi planing of a sports retail complex at Queensway Retail Park, Stafford on behalf of Stainforth Construction. The concrete floor had previously received a vinyl and carpet tile finish which the tenant used to demonstrate a multitude of sporting activities.

With the aid of our skilled operatives and concrete floor grinding equipment Nationwide Diamond Contracts managed to complete the entire footprint of the floor area circa 2,400m2 over a 2 day period which required us to use 2 shifts and work throughout the night. Many other trades were working within the same area but with the 316 dust suppression units in full flow, minimal disruption was encountered. On completion the client’s agent inspected the concrete floor grinding and immediately allowed the following trade to commence proceedings.

Concrete Repairs Headingley

Caddick Construction of Knottingley recently awarded the contract at the Headingley Rugby League Stadium near Leeds to Nationwide Diamond Contracts for the repair, sealant and grinding works to the concrete terracing for the South Stand.

The project had an extremely tight schedule to meet as the traditional boxing day fixture between Leeds and Wakefield as an average attendance of 15,000 people and so hence the stand must be re opened in time for the match.

Nationwide had to select materials suitable for working in sub zero temperatures, with the capabilities of withstanding heavy foot trafficking along with the structural stability to appease the clients appointed engineer White Young Green. The vast experience of our Production Supervisor Mr Billy Hillyard and the other Nationwide staff in carrying out this type of works enabled the project to run incredibly smoothly both in terms of timescales and quality of workmanship.

As illustrated in the photographs many different types of repair , grinding and sealant works were carried out during the construction programme period. Nationwide are lucky enough to already own a wide range of grinding, planning, sealing and other types of concrete repair equipment within the group suitable for this type of stadia repair and refurbishment. Should you wish to receive further information on either this project or others we have carried out or maybe interested in then please do not hesitate to contact jon on 07900 456665 or jon@nd-group.com.
