In laying concrete flooring for poultry units and grooving cattle sheds, Nationwide Diamond Group has got to know farmers from Devon to Dumfires. Rich farmers, poor farmers, farmers with a pack of Jack Russels who won’t let you out of the car when you arrive. Farmers in flat caps, farmers in John Deere boiler suits and farmers who give you eggs and invite you into their homes.
Yet amongst the many personalities and characters one husband and wife team from Yorkshire stand out. A couple who IN ADDITION to running their farm each have their own successful internet web sites. They are… drum roll… the Risdales.
Sara set up www.farmingfriends back in 2006 first as a diary of farming life but within a shocking short time it exploded into an online magazine packed with information, video clips, puzzles, tasty farmhouse recipes, a book shop and animal penpal scheme (excellent gift idea by the way).
At the time I was trying to set up a web site myself, and it put me to shame how fast and efficient she was and how soon she became so knowledgeable.
As a teacher Sara had always been able to write and it was no surprise to those of us who knew her when the number of people visiting her site skyrocketed. In no time at all she set up http://farmingfriends.com/forums/ so her readers could chat to each other then http://hugohouse.co.uk so they could find out about and buy her free ranging guinea fowl, ducks and quail eggs.
Sara may not be able to back her own car down a twenty-foot wide road, but there isn’t much she doesn’t know about poultry and her muffins aren’t half bad. Nationwide Diamond Group names her our inaugural internet partner.
